Hi Renee, you only need to use salt if you have hard water i.e. water you cannot drink from the tap. Even if you have clean water, the salt indicator will still appear as Ariston dishwashers are manufactured in Europe where salt is often required. If you don’t have hard water, we don’t recommend using salt

Are Ariston Dishwashers any good?

It is the quietest dishwasher I have ever owned so it doesn’t matter if you run the most economical cycle for just over 3 hours. The dishes come out perfectly clean and the drying cycle is also brilliant, no need to leave plastic containers on the sink to dry when we empty it. Very very happy, highly recommended
